ECCCSC Meeting Minutes April 24th, 2023

Elk City Community Center Steering Committee
Meeting Minutes
April 24, 2023
Elk City Elementary

Meeting called to order by Adam Geyer at 5:02 pm. Members present were Adam Geyer, Sheena Geyer, Sue Phillips, Heather Kestner, Mike Edmonson and Greg Coon. Absent was Lamar Johnson.

Two meetings were held previously with no minutes necessary, one on February 27th to assemble survey envelopes and one on April 3rd to input paper surveys into an online spreadsheet.

Meeting called primarily to discuss results of the survey. There were 532 surveys mailed out with 88 responses. It was decided that in the cases where two names were on the returned survey, it would be counted as two results considering there were also couples who sent their surveys in separately and it was initially unclear that it would be one survey per individual and not household. These numbers represent those only being counted as one result and does not include the one survey still needing to be entered.

With the initial numbers and no changes having been done, there were 67% in favor of a new community center, 11.4% no, and 21.6% being maybe. The majority of the maybe responses had comments explaining their answer ranging from concerns on location, feasibility, and lack of fuel in the town.

As to whether or not there were enough responses to warrant a decision, the committee voted, with 5 ayes, 1 abstention and 1 absent, in favor of moving forward with at least doing a feasibility study. A feasibility study would most likely require about 4 months to complete given summer is around the corner and committee members are exceptionally busy.

The above changes will be made to the survey spreadsheet and be ready for a presentation to the community on May 22nd.

Meeting adjourned at 6:19pm.

Next Meeting: May 22nd at 6pm, Elementary School
